As a manager, why did you choose a technical education in the field of energy?

I have a business background and work for a venture builder. My job is to develop innovative ideas in start-ups and to make companies more sustainable. I focus on the sectors of energy and utilities.

For this job, it is important that I understand technical issues and can collaborate with engineers.

Why did you choose the CAS programme Applied Technology in Energy at ETH Zurich?

This degree programme was a perfect fit for my goals because I gained an understanding of technology without having to become an engineer. I liked the combination of theoretical input and working on real-world problems.

Have you been able to apply what you have learned in your job?

From the first day, I could use the knowledge. For example, I worked on a project about energy efficiency, which involved assessing the quality of energy - a very abstract topic for me. The newly acquired knowledge helped me to understand the context and to contribute.

What did you like best about this further education programme?

The exchange with the lecturers, the research groups and the other participants was very enriching.

Would you recommend the training to other companies?

In times of increasing specialisation, it is important to broaden one's horizons. Just as companies are increasingly imparting management skills to their technical staff, many more companies should train their managers in the technical field. I can highly recommend this degree programme for that.
